Rubber Duck Races

Every summer the Boys and Girls Clubs of Knoxville do a fund raiser where you can sponsor a rubber duck for $5. (If you sponsor two you get a souvenir duck to keep; if you sponsor 4 you get a t-shirt.) They offer one grand prize (a car) and then ten place prizes. There are also free booths and rides for the kids to participate in and of course they give away free trinkets for your participation. Plus they sell food there too...no event is complete without an overpriced steakburger; however, you can't complain too much since the rest of the event including parking is free.

Here is our day in pictures:

Here are the kids in front of the big rubber duck

The collage can tell our story in pictures...and yes that is James' tongue as close to that door handle as you can get without actual contact occurring. I guess he's putting a spin on the old story about licking all your french fries quick enough so your brother won't want to eat them.

And yes Landon is going to be a future Tennessee Volunteer quarterback...we'll save this one for his college yearbook entry.

And for those of you who don't know the couple and little boy are very good family friends.

The last picture is of the rubber duck race. The current wasn't very strong today on the mighty Tennessee River, so they had to encourage the ducks with some wave runners.

(FYI: you should be able to click on the collage for an enlarged version.)

We used to go to the Duckie Derby in Portland. They would take a dump truck and dump them off a bridge on the Willamet River. Too much fun. And for a great cause too.
Now James, no coveting!!! : )
