In a nutshell, Paco was playing with a goat and the pit bull is his "guard dog". The pit took Paco's playful puppy spunk as aggressive and attacked his hind quarters in defense of the goat. Luckliy, x-rays revealed no broken bones, just a lot of broken skin. And, despite the pitiful appearance, there should be no permanent injuries. Finally, the owner swears his dog isn't typically aggressive toward other animals or children...he just defends his friend when necessary.
Poor Paco has a shaved hinnie with lots of stitches and two tubes that release whatever ooze builds up inside of him. He has to wear a cone around his neck so he doesn't lick himself and mess up all that expensive medical treatment. He is to go to his vet on Wednesday for a follow up, so we will know more at that time. Until then we have some medications to give him once a day and we basically just need to keep an eye on him...make sure he eats a little and goes to the bathroom a little. But, most importantly, he needs lots of rest and a little exercise.
